Summary

This document is intended for the end-users of WebSpellChecker system and outlines the primary functions and operation information

Objective

WebSpellChecker is web-application. WebSpellChecker system checks and corrects orthographic and grammar mistakes in user's text in English language. It may also be used as Thesaurus to find synonyms. The product supports thin client technology.

Main window

The Main window contains three parts:

  1. Shortcut menu in the header.
  2. Main content part in the middle.
  3. Control panel in the footer.

Shortcut menu

The Shortcut menu is used for switching between correction methods by selecting different tabs. When WebSpellChecker tab is active, the orthography tab is active too.

The Shortcut menu consists of WebSpellChecker, Grammar, and Thesaurus tabs. Each tab has its own control panel.

The WebSpellChecker page is used for checking and correcting spelling. The words with mistakes are marked as links.

To correct mistakes, the user selects a mistake and then chooses the correct alternative in the Suggestions window.

Common operations

Common operation are listed in the follow table. To perform one of these operations, the user clicks different buttons in the Control Panel.

Operation Description
Change to Changes the active word to the selected alternative from the "Suggestions" window.
Change All Changes all occurrences of the active word to the selected alternative from the "Suggestions" window.
Ignore Ignores the mistake in the active word.
Ignore All Ignores all occurrences of the mistake in the active word.
Add Adds the active word to the user dictionary.
Option Opens the 'Options dialog' window. This window allows setting spell-checking options and administering the user dictionary.
Finish checking Accepts all changes and closes the window.
Cancel Rejects all changes and closes the window.

Options dialog

The Options Dialog has two sections:

  1. Spell checking options
    • Ignore All-Caps Words. All misspelled words written in capital letters are ignored.
    • Ignore Words with Numbers. All misspelled words that contain numbers are ignored.
    • Ignore Words with Mixed Case. All words with mixed cases are ignored.
    • Ignore Domain Names. All web addresses that start with either www or http: and end with a domain name are ignored.
  2. User dictionary
    • Create. Creates a user dictionary with name defined in the 'Dictionary name' field.
    • Delete. Deletes the current user dictionary.
    • Rename. Renames the current user dictionary
    • Restore. To restore a stored dictionary, type its name in the "Dictionary name" field and press the Restore button.
      Note! This functionality is intended to restore the dictionary in case user has changed workstation (or browser). If user has already setup the dictionary and is going to restore another dictionary he should follow these steps:
      1. Delete the existing dictionary;
      2. Type the name of the dictionary, which user wants to restore;
      3. Click the "Restore" button.
      If user tries to restore dictionary while having already one dictionary setup the following message appears: "You have already setup your dictionary."

Click Ok to close the Options dialog and save changes.

Grammar page

The Grammar page is used for checking English grammar in the user's text. The text fragments with mistakes are marked as links.

To correct the mistakes, the user chooses the word and then selects the suggested alternatives.

Common operation

Ignore problem Ignores all occurrences of the active fragment.
Finish checking Accepts all changes and closes the window.

Thesaurus page

The Thesaurus page is used for looking for synonyms. The words with found synonyms are marked as links.

To change the active word to one of the suggested synonyms, the user selects one of the suggested alternatives in the "Synonyms" fields, and then clicks the "Change to" button.
